Today is #GivingTuesday! Ana Luiza Rodrigues is a graduate research assistant at Iowa State University in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering and was selected by Asphalt Materials, Inc. to participate in the AIF Internship Program.
Ana shares, “I was incredibly fortunate to be selected for the 2023 program. The two-day event provided ‘Asphalt 101’ classes, hands-on laboratory work and insightful discussions with industry experts. Personally, I felt honored to be there and could see the dedication and passion reflected in every aspect of the program. More than that, they provided access to books and resources that aided my research for my Ph.D. program and enhanced my role as a teaching assistant for asphalt lab classes.”
Additionally, Ana was given the opportunity to participate in the Asphalt Institute’s 2023 Summer Meeting in Seattle, Washington. She shared, “As a graduate student, this experience was transformative. It opened my eyes to the dynamic and innovative aspects of the industry. I was particularly inspired by the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) seminar, where I observed how various companies collaborated to advance asphalt knowledge and promote its dissemination.”
Ana said these experiences solidified her decision to pursue a career in the asphalt industry. The invaluable networking opportunities, the mentorship from professionals, and the exposure to real-world challenges have been instrumental in her professional growth.
